Wishing Well

Pennies glimmer in the bottom of the well
Wonder how many wishes
And how many pennies fell

I never thought I’d be standing here
Without desires to share
Pennies in hand, fall aimlessly

My reflection stares back at me
Unavoidable decisions now feat
Ripples distort the portrait I see

I never thought I’d be standing here
Watching the future unfold
Conceding all my authority

Ever think you’d pay the price
For someone else’s lies
Watch them lead a double life

I never thought I’d be standing here
Throwing pennies without fear
And sink without revere
